new year’s resolutions.

now, I NEVER stick to my resolutions. I mean, like ever.

pretty positive the last three years have had resolutions that have had something to do with eating better and/or working out more.  ULTIMATE FAIL.

Let’s grab my “resolutions.” post from last year and see how I did.

resolutions.

now, like just about everyone else in this world- i make new year’s resolutions and i NEVER stick to them. well NO MORE! here are my resolutions for the year 2011:

1) Read more and write more.  Dave and JoJo used to be amazed at my ability to sit down in our big green chair and read a whole book. in a day. usually it was two books.  I would go through books and books and then ask JoJo to read hers.  After her vehement “NOs” for my 11 year-old self to read the adult genre-d “Summer Sisters” and “She’s Come Undone,” i would beg her to take me to Books & Co.  Then I’d beg her every SINGLE damn time we were in the grocery store for a new notebook.

“Martina Rose you got a new one last week. NO.”

“But it’s all filled up.”

“Already? with what!?!”

“Stories.”

At which point my mom would shovel six notebooks into the cart.  Probably because she was so overwhelmed with joy that her pre-adolescent daughter was more interested in writing than much more harmful things.

well, failed at that one.  I think I definitely read more than normal, but did not write nearly enough.  If I’m going to write a book I better get started!!

2) Eat healthier.  Oh Tina Tina, you are no longer the 14 year-old who could down a box of Goldfish and gallon of Cranberry juice with Micaela while watching “Boy Meets World” on the Disney Channel.  I have to stop pretending that what I eat doesn’t affect me.

Yep, Tina Tina didn’t do that.  Definitely made some better choices, but not nearly as often as necessary.

3) Get back into shape.  I do yoga on a pretty regular basis. but i’ve got to get myself back into my cardio and resistance routines.  i belong to a country club with all the amenities, and since i live at home: IT’S FREE.  no excuses for that. Also I’m joining a USTA tennis team to get back into my favorite sport. :)

And now you live in Chicago Martina with no access to tennis and a NON free gym.  I’m paying for this so I better take advantage.

4) Save more than I spend.  no explanation required.

FAIL.

5) Get myself to Charleston before my 23rd birthday.

turned 23 almost 6 months ago and I’m not in Charleston.  But really, the ultimate goal was to get out of my parents’ house and Dayton by the time I was 23.  I moved to Chicago for a new job the last weekend of April, a little over 3 months before my 23rd birthday.  So I accomplished that! very proud of myself as that was the biggest life change in my resolutions for 2011.

so where I’m at for 2012:

1) read and write more. sticking to that one. that should just be a daily goal for me in general.

2) train for a half marathon. (my first day of training was today!) instead of telling myself to “lose weight” or “eat better” which are just general, non-specific goals with no direction, i’m going to train myself for a bigger goal, and those things will just come along with my training plan. :)

3) create a better sense of personal style. honestly, I’d like to say I’m so proud of the way I dress, act, carry myself, do my makeup and hair. but I’m not.  for 22 years, I dressed the way the norm was, or how my friends looked.  since moving to Chicago, I’ve gotten more compliments on the way I look when I do something outrageous or outside my comfort zone.  so, creating my OWN sense of style is one of my bigger goals. :)

happy 2012 to you all tumblettes, miss your faces.
