diy.

so, since moving to Chicago May 1st, my apartment has been a CONSTANT work in progress.  it’s so difficult- i’ve never had to decorate anything but my own room.  once, in fourth grade at my house in Dayton (disaster- fingers crossed JoJo has taken down the wallpaper and painted the room when i go home for Thanksgiving) then the college decorations for my dorm room, the next year in the sorority house: the interior design was simply DELTA GAMMA THREW UP ALL OVER EVERYTHING, and finally my rooms in my apartments junior and senior year were just simple layouts. The walls weren’t really decorated with anything other than pictures of girlfriends, fraternity composites, and a wooden anchor with hooks holding all my purses :) so to have a WHOLE apartment, living/dining room, bathroom, bedroom, and kitchen to decorate and make “flow” together has been a overwhelming task.  from color palates to wall hangings, furniture to space organization…it’s been a tough few months.  However, i did a few projects all on my own (with some unsolicited but very much appreciated help from JoJo) that I wanted to share with you all.

in my entryway, there is the perfect spot for a small table.  And VERY necessary because for the first few weeks while it was bare, i constantly dropped my keys and purse there instinctively.  It was like I was subconsciously yearning for the perfect table.

ALAS…

I found this treasure at Home Goods.  Now, you say, “Martina it’s pink.  We know you love pink, but a table? a little much.”

Agreed.  But how amaze?!!?

So, of course, I buy neutral paint.

tan-ness.

JoJo visited and decided she loved the table but it needed to be darker.  I let her have creative responsibility.  She succeeded!

Do you ADORE? i do :) (please don’t mind my empty orchid planter on the right. or my to-be dry-cleaned bag of clothes on the left.)

Since EVERYTHING in my apartment is painted a shockingly, blinding white, I decided to get a little girly in the powder room :)

painted the walls pink! However, ugly window huh?

Transformed…

The PERFECT curtain from Pottery Barn. It’s in my bathroom at home so how perfect to have it here too!

JoJo was very upset with my bedroom door being glass paned and decided it simply needed re-vamping.

She sewed this curtain to create the ruffles on the top and bottom.  Although not as bright and cheery as I like things, I love the paisley pattern. :)

up close and personal.

and the colors in the paisley match my curtains and my bedding :)

Now the kitchen, EW.  The back door leading to my porch was literally a jail cell with blinds over it (blinds removed in the photo)

how awful!?! Luckily JoJo created a solution…

amazing how a few things can make a big difference.

xoxo.
